4-H Public Presentations is a program in which youth learn to create a presentation and develop the skills needed to present it before an audience. You learn about the research process and the steps needed to organize information into an interesting and creative presentation and enhance their confidence when speaking in public.

Participating youth are evaluated by trained 4-H Volunteers who use a rubric to guide presenters on what they did well as well as the ways they can improve.

Participants can select to take part in one of the following presentation categories:

  • Demonstration: (Ages 8+) This type of presentation requires you to talk while working on something. It can be cooking, sewing, building, etc.
  • Illustrated Talk: (Ages 8+) This is slightly more formal, using a poster or technology to help you relay your message.
  • Speech: For the more experience speaker, you do not use posters or technology to get your point across.(Youth must have completed at least 1 Demonstration or Illustrated Talk Previously to present in this category)
  • Dramatization/Recitation: A fun, confidence building experience -- it is like acting only with no props. (Youth must have completed at least 1 Demonstration or Illustrated Talk Previously to present in this category)
  • Impromptu: (Ages 11+) Ideal for 4-H Members who are looking for an opportunity to develop and enhance their ability to respond thoughtfully on the spot without preparing a full presentation.
  • Cloverbud Presentation: (Ages 5-7) This presentation category is a fun, non-competitive way for our younger 4-H’ers to build confidence and learn to feel comfortable speaking in front of a group.
