Beginner Sheep and Goats - Jan 2024

  • Thursday, January 18, 2024, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Sheep and Goats are gaining popularity in New York state as they are less costly to get started with and can be valuable additions to small-scale homesteads, diversified farms or larger-scale production farms.

This online presentation will cover considerations for beginners interested in raising sheep and goats including infrastructure needs, forages, and the management basics for health and lambing/kidding. We will discuss an introduction to breed selection, regulations, marketing and other factors for meat, dairy and fiber production. Resources for raising small ruminants available through Cornell programs will also be shared. We will leave time for Q & A.

This presentation will be facilitated by Kathryn Brignac, CCE Ulster County Livestock and Natural Resources Educator and Ruby Koch-Fienberg, MA, CCE Putnam Agriculture and Food Systems Coordinator.

We will contact you one week before the event with a Zoom link.
