High School Scholarships
Master Gardener Volunteers Scholarship
Sponsored by Master Gardener Volunteer program, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County will offer up to two (2) $500 scholarships this year.
Qualifying Criteria
The successful candidate must:
- Be a Putnam County NY resident, in their senior year of high school.
- Complete the application in their own words.
- Be accepted and planning to attend full-time, an accredited college or university, community or junior college, or trade/vocational school with a course of study of six months or longer.
- Pursue a degree in the field of Plant Science, Horticulture, Floriculture, Architectural Landscape Design, Forestry, Botany or any other environmentally related program.
- Successfully submit the scholarship application, essays, letters of recommendation, and a short virtual interview.
Awardee will receive the scholarship money after completion of the first semester of college, and after submitting a copy of the semester’s transcript to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County within 1 month of completion of first semester.

4-H Scholarships:
Hebe Gordon 4-H Scholarship
Sponsored by the Putnam-Westchester 4-H Horse Show Committee and administered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County will offer at least one (1) $500.00 scholarship annually, pending receipt of successfully completed scholarship application, to a young person who has been actively engaged in the 4-H Horse or Animal Science Club Program for at least three (3) years, and who will be pursuing further education upon high school graduation.
Qualifying Criteria
The successful candidate must:
- Be a Putnam County NY resident, in their senior year of high school.
- Be a graduating high school senior that has been actively engaged in the 4-H Club Program for at least the past three (3) years. (The applicant does not need to be a currently enrolled 4-H Member.)
- Complete the application in their own words.
- Be accepted and planning to attend full-time, an accredited college or university, community or junior college, or trade/vocational school with a course of study of six months or longer.
- Have application validated by current or former 4-H Club Leader and by a Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County 4-H Educator (If the club has disbanded and the applicant cannot contact the former leader for validation, the applicant should discuss this with the 4-H Educator)
Awardee will receive the scholarship money after completion of the first semester of college or vocational school, and after submitting a copy of the semester’s transcript to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County within 1 month of completion of first semester.

William C. Nichols 4-H Memorial Scholarship
Sponsored by the Family of William C. Nichols and administered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County will offer at least one (1) $1000.00 scholarship this year.
Qualifying Criteria
The successful candidate must:
- Be a Putnam County NY resident, in their senior year of high school.
- Be a graduating high school senior that has been actively engaged in the 4-H Club Program for at least the past three (3) years.
- Complete the application in their own words.
- Be a current 4-H Club member that is in good standing in Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County’s 4-H Youth Development Program.
- Be accepted and planning to attend full-time, an accredited college or university, community or junior college, or trade/vocational school with a course of study of six months or longer.
- Demonstrate leadership and community engagement through 4-H, school and other organization activities.
- Successfully submit the Scholarship application, essays and letters of recommendation.
Awardee will receive the scholarship money after completion of the first semester of college or vocational school, and after submitting a copy of the semester’s transcript to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County within 1 month of completion of first semester.
