This training program is designed to assist green industry professionals in obtaining the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist designation. All Sessions are in person and include a snow-date. (See Dates and Sessions Descriptions Below)
Attendees of this program will gain an increased knowledge of practices pertaining to the care of trees including tree biology and identification, proper pruning, and safety, soils, tree health and diagnosis. ISA Certified arborists may also attend select sessions for review and qualify for Continuing Education Units (CEUs). DEC Pesticide recertification credits have been applied for but have not yet been granted for sessions. This training may be eligible for Landscape Architect CEUs. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued. Contact the NYS Dept. of Ed for further information.

ISA Examination Eligibility Requirement
The ISA Certification Board requires a candidate to have a minimum of three years’ experience in arboriculture. Acceptable experience includes the practical use of knowledge involved in pruning, fertilization, installation and establishment, diagnosis, and treatment of tree problems, cabling, and bracing, climbing, or other services that directly relate to arboriculture. Examples of experience sources include but are not limited to:
Tree care companies
Utility personnel
Nursery personnel
Instructors of arboriculture/horticulture
Landscape personnel
Horticulture/Extension Advisors
Municipalities
Consulting Arborist
State forestry personnel
Pest Control Advisors/Applicators
The eligibility requirement may also be satisfied with a two-year degree in arboriculture and two years practical experience or a four-year degree in a related field and one year of practical experience.
By submitting your application, you authorize ISA certification staff to contact the practical experience reference named on your application to substantiate your eligibility.
The ISA Certification Program does not discriminate in determining eligibility on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, age disability, or any other characteristic protected by law.
Becoming ISA Certified is a two-step process.
1. Trainees apply to ISA to determine eligibility
2. After approval, enroll to take a computer-based exam
Trainees must apply separately to ISA to be eligible to take the exam.

CCEDC/CCEPC/CCEWC cannot process exam applications nor accept exam fees.
Once your application is approved by ISA you will be able to enroll for the exam. Computer-based exams may be taken at Pearson VUE testing facilities. You must first submit your application to ISA and receive approval prior to scheduling to take an exam.
